Sherlock is by far one of the best things that is on TV at the moment. When it was first shown last year I loved it right away. The production values of the show are superb. The way the text is overlaid onto objects in the frame, the way the camera tracks when Sherlock is deducing something.

I had always heard of the Sherlock Holmes stories, but it was only as a result of the first season of Sherlock that I actually picked up the novels and started to read them.

The first episode of the first season of Sherlock, “A Study in Pink” was based on the short story “A Study in Scarlet”, the other two were constructed from various parts of other stories.

The second season, which has just started on BBC, has 3 episodes. The first “A Scandal in Belgravia”, based on “A Scandal in Bohemia”, and “The Hounds of Baskerville” based on “The Hound of the Baskervilles”.

Up to now I have really loved the modern take on the Arthur Conan Doyle stories, but this latest one I wasn’t so sure about. I can’t quite put my finger on why I didn’t like it as much as the rest. I think the book was creepier and darker than the TV adaptation, and the book had a much more intricate plot.

Anyway, regardless of that, I am very much looking forward to the concluding episode of the season this coming weekend.
