For the past couple of years that Lorraine and I have been dating, for her Christmas present I have taken her away somewhere for a day, first Edinburgh, then Dublin, so this year I did the same. Jason, a good friend of mine, and myself, organised a wee trip to London for our girlfriends. Jason told Helen, his gf, about this trip, but I kept it a secret from Lorraine. All I told her was to keep the weekend free and make sure she wasn’t working, because we were going to go on a little road trip. What she didn’t know was the road trip ended at Aldergrove airport. So anyway we headed off to London for the weekend, by the time we arrived on the Friday night it was fairly late on, so we just got a drink and headed on to bed.
The next day we did some sightseeing… but not the most famous landmarks…
Saturday
- Oxford St – shopping
- Regent St – shopping, Apple Store, Hamleys
- Knightsbridge – Harrods
- Greenwich
- The O2 (the dome)
- Canary Wharf
- Covent Garden
- Walked from Tower of London, over Tower Bridge, along the South Bank through the Christmas markets, crossed the mille nnium bridge to St. Pauls
- Trafalgar Square
If you ever find yourself in Covent Garden tube station, take the lift (elevator) because we took the stairs, but only found out just after we s tarted our climb that it is about 15 floors beneath the ground…
It was Lorraine and my 3 year anniversary a few weeks back, so (yet another surprise) i took her out on the Saturday evening as a belated anniversary celebration. We went out for dinner, followed by going to the The Phantom of The Opera in Her Majesty’s Theatre Haymerket… It was fantastic, Lorraine loves PotO, and t hought the show was amazing… this was then followed by some late night open air ice skating
On to Sunday, we did the more well known sights on Sunday
- Buckingham Palace
- St. James Park
- Whitehall
- Downing Street
- Westminster / Houses of Parliament
- Boat Cruise on the Thames
- London Eye
- St. Pancras International Station
After all this we went for one last wee sail on the tube, and then headed back to the airport for our flight home…
It was a fantastic weekend, great fun with my girlfriend and great friends.
