Martin Luther King Jr…

So its 40 years ago today that Martin Luther King Jr. was assassinated in Memphis, Tennessee. I’ve listened to a few of his speeches and sermons recently, and obviously his most well know speech is his, ‘I have a dream’ speech… but if you haven’t read or listened to his ‘ I’ve Been to the Mountaintop ‘ speech, then you should…

It was the last speech he was to give, he was shot dead the very next day, when you read or hear the speech in the light of this it becomes really quite weird almost, you might say prophetic….

“Well, I don’t know what will happen now. We’ve got some difficult days ahead. But it doesn’t matter with me now. Because I’ve been to the mountaintop. And I don’t mind. Like anybody, I would like to live a long life. Longevity has its place. But I’m not concerned about that now. I just want to do God’s will. And He’s allowed me to go up to the mountain. And I’ve looked over. And I’ve seen the promised land. I may not get there with you. But I want you to know tonight, that we, as a people, will get to the promised land. And I’m happy, tonight. I’m not worried about anything. I’m not fearing any man. Mine eyes have seen the glory of the coming of the Lord.”

Earth Hour…

Towns and cities around the world are turning out the lights for an hour to highlight the threat of climate change.”Earth Hour” began in Sydney at 2000 local time (0900 GMT), when lights went out on landmarks like the Opera House and Harbour Bridge. Bangkok, Toronto, Chicago and Dublin are among 27 other cities officially due to follow suit at 2000 local time.

BBC News

On March 31 2007, for one hour, Sydney made a powerful statement about the greatest contributor to global warming – coal-fired electricity – by turning off its lights. Over 2.2 million Sydney residents and over 2,100 businesses switched off, leading to a 10.2% energy reduction across the city. What began as one city taking a stand against global warming caught the attention of the world. In 2008, 24 global cities will participate in Earth Hour at 8pm on March 29. Earth Hour is the highlight of a major campaign to encourage businesses, communities and individuals to take the simple steps needed to cut their emissions on an ongoing basis. It is about simple changes that will collectively make a difference – from businesses turning off their lights when their offices are empty, to households turning off appliances rather than leaving them on standby.

Earth Hour At 8pm this evening, local time whatever your time zone… turn off the lights in your home, or workplace (if possible), for one hour…

St. Patrick’s Day 2008…

So as I mentioned the other day I was going to head down to Dublin for St. Patrick’s Day…

I went down and met up with Alastair and Austin, we went to the parade, which was ok I guess, i had expected more, some of the things in the parade were pretty weird, like a giant St. Patrick on a giant motor trike, presumably he was driving the snakes out of Ireland, he he…

there were quite a few American Bands, you know like the types in the movies that play at college american football games, and I can assure you that the stereotype of band people being nerds and geeks… its 100% true and not a stereotype, lol…

It was cool to be around the place with all the festivities…

Happy St. Patricks Day…

Im posting now because I probably wont have time in the morning…I always find it hillarious that the largest St. Patricks Day parade is in New York City, what is it with so many americans and the whole Irish thing, I know a lot of americans have irish ancestors, but not all of them. Anyway, St. Patricks Day is celebrated much more in the Republic than it is in the North, so tomorrow I am going to get the bus to Dublin and hang out with some friends enjoying the festivities…
